Johann Sebastian Bach byl německý skladatel a hudebník období baroka, proslulý svými instrumentálními skladbami, jako jsou Braniborské koncerty, a vokální hudbou, jako jsou Matoušovy pašije. Bach se narodil 31. března 1685 v Eisenachu a pocházel z dlouhého rodu hudebníků. Během svého života zastával různá hudební místa po celém Německu, mimo jiné působil jako kostelní varhaník, dvorní hudebník a kantor na Thomasschule v Lipsku.

The Bach-Collegium Stuttgart was a group of freelance musicians, founded in 1965 by Helmuth Rilling to accompany the choir Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart. To avoid being restricted to a particular style, the players used modern instruments, while taking account of what is known about period performance practice. In 2016 the Bach-Collegium was merged into the newly found baroque ensemble Gaechinger Cantorey.

Choir founded in 1954 by Helmuth Rilling and still directed by him until 2013. Chorus master Hans-Christoph Rademann took over and reformed the ensemble with the new name Gaechinger Cantorey in 2016 by including instrumentalists.
