Franz Kafka

Franz Kafka ; židovským jménem Anšel , byl pražský německy píšící spisovatel. Je považován za jednoho z literárně nejvlivnějších spisovatelů 20. století, byl členem Pražského kruhu. Napsal tři romány Amerika, Proces, Zámek a řadu povídek a novel . Podle něj vzniklo přídavné jméno kafkovský, jež existuje také v mnoha dalších světových jazycích a je typické pro situace obsažené v kafkových románech. Vystudoval právo a byl zaměstnán jako úředník u pojišťovny. Nikdy se neoženil. Byl nekuřák, abstinent a vegetarián. Onemocněl tuberkulózou. Téměř celý jeho život byl spjat s Prahou. Oskaru Pollakovi v dopise v roce 1902 napsal: „Praha nepustí. Ani Tebe, ani mě. Tahle matička má drápy. To se člověk musí přizpůsobit, nebo – . Ze dvou stran bychom ji museli podpálit, na Vyšehradě a na Hradčanech, pak by se nám snad podařilo uniknout.“ Franz Kafka se narodil na Starém Městě pražském jako nejstarší syn židovského velkoobchodníka s galanterií Hermanna Kafky a Julie Kafkové . Spisovatelův rodný dům zvaný U věže , který stál na rohu dnešních ulic Maiselovy a U radnice, později vyhořel. Na jeho místě vyrostl v roce 1902 rohový činžovní dům částečně inspirovaný původní podobou domu, jehož součástí je též dochovaný portál vyhořelé budovy. Na fasádě je pro upomínku připevněna pamětní busta od sochaře Karla Hladíka z roku 1966. K osobě Kafky odkazuje i současný název přilehlého náměstí Franze Kafky. Otec Hermann Kafka pocházel z českojazyčného prostředí jihočeského Oseka u Strakonic. Už jako dítě musel pomáhat s výdělkem. Po vesnicích okolo rodné obce prodával sponky, mašličky a spínací špendlíky. Chodil bos a omrzly mu nohy.
