Scott Mariani vyrostl ve skotském St. Andrew. Po studiích moderních jazyků v Oxfordu pracoval jako překladatel, profesionální muzikant, instruktor střelby a novinář na volné noze, aby se nakonec vydal na dráhu spisovatele. Strávil několik let v Itálii a ve Francii, než objevil spisovatelské útočiště v divoké krajině západního Walesu, kde obývá venkovské sídlo ze třicátých let devatenáctého století ukryté v hlubokých lesích. Pokud Scott Mariani právě nepíše, rád poslouchá jazz nebo chodí do kina, zajímá se o klasické motocykly a astronomii.
