Britský SF autor, narodil se 24. 5. 1960 v Haworthu v západním Yorkshiru, několik let žil také v australském Melbourne. Psaní se věnuje již do roku 1975, jeho první vydanou prací byla však až rozhlasová hra pro děti Noel‘-Ark . Do žánru SF vstoupil povídkou Krash-Bangg Joe and the Pineal-Zen Equation v magazínu Interzone, na jehož stránkách se v průběhu několika let stal jedním z nejpopulárnějších britských autorů, ačkoli jinak není ve světě zdaleka tak známý. Brownovy kratší práce spojují zajímavé hrad-SF motivy s citem pro mezilidské vztahy a s přesvědčivým zobrazením atraktivních obrazů cizích světů. Sebrány byly ve sbírkách The Time Lapsed Man and Other Stories , Blue Shifting a Deep Future . Soubor The Fall of Tartarus shrnuje kratší příběhy věnované planetě, jejíž hvězda se chystá k proměně v novu, zatímco se obyvatelé Tartaru rozhodují, zda utéci či zůstat. Patrně nejznámější prací tohoto cyklu je i u nás vydaná povídka Hunting the Slarque . S oblibou spolupracuje s jinými autory, nejčastěji s Keithem Brookem. Některé jejich společné práce shrnuje soubor Parallax Viex . U nás známe práce napsané společně se Stephenem Baxterem, z nichž nejzajímavější je zřejmě povídka The Spacetime Pit . Jedna z Baxterových prací se stala rovněž předlohou pro Brownovu druhou audio hru George and the Red Giant . Z poslední doby neopomeňme zmínit alespoň povídku Children of Winter a samostatně vydané novely A Writer's Life a Approaching Omega , z nichž ta první je pro autora nezvyklým výletem na pomezí fantastického žánru. U příležitosti nedávného výročí smrti Julese Vernea vydal samostatnou novelu The Extraordinary Coyage of Jules Verne a uspořádal antologii The Mammoth Book of New Jules Verne Adventures . Hrdina debutového románu Meridian Days se snaží zapomenout na svou temnou minulost uprostřed zvláštní uměl...
