Haig se narodil v Sheffieldu . Jako novinář spolupracoval s The Guardian , The Sunday Times , The Independent , The Sydney Morning Herald a The Face . Jeho romány, z nichž první vyšel v roce 2005, jsou často temné a bizarní a týkají rodinných vztahů. Poslední rodina v Anglii využívá příběh Shakespearova Jindřicha IV. , jen některými protagonisty jsou psi. Jeho druhý román Klub mrtvých otců je založen na Hamletovi. Vypráví příběh jedenáctiletého kluka, který se zabývá nedávnou smrtí svého otce.
