František Štorm is a world-known type designer, but also a composer and a founding member of the band Master’s Hammer. In parallel with his long-term work in the fi eld of applied graphics and music, free work has always been created, especially linocuts and drawings, but in recent years also paintings of larger format…s. The impetus for creating this book came from the success of exhibitions featuring paintings, graphics, and unique video projections. The book entitled Libero captures Štorm’s creative surge of recent years, in which typography, book illustrations, and graphic commissions naturally coexist with free work. Oil paintings inspired by, for example, South Bohemian ponds or travel experiences are increasingly gaining ground. Font shapes that we usually do not pay much attention to in books, together with painting, graphics and drawing, create a close connection in which both of Štorm’s lines of work illuminate each other in unexpected contexts. Libero also captures the breadth of his artistic scope in the visual processing of musical activities, thanks to which he appeals to a large circle of fans. The reader can enjoy wondrous, sometimes grotesquely psychedelic works in the neighbourhood of imaginative graphics and typography, the curves of which are the author’s defining gesture. O autorovi

František Štorm

František Štorm je český tvůrce písma, typograf, grafik, pedagog, odborný publicista a hudebník. František Štorm je synem malířky Dany Puchnarové. Je vnukem Břetislava Štorma, českého architekta, heraldika a grafika. V letech 1981–1985 studoval na SOŠV v Praze. Ve studiu pokračoval na VŠUP tamtéž, nejprve pod vedením Milana Hegara a později Jana Solpery, v jehož Ateliéru knižní grafiky a písma absolvoval v roce 1991. V letech 2003–2008 působil jako vedoucí ateliéru Tvorba písma a typografie na téže škole. Roku 1993 založil v Praze Střešovickou písmolijnu , která se zabývá tvorbou a distribucí digitálních typografických písem. Tato písmolijna nabízí více než 800 originálních písem, mezi nimiž jsou Štormova písma autorská , modifikace písem historických i digitalizace písem významných českých autorů . Je autorem např. typografického stylu restaurace Lokál. Ilustracemi doprovodil např. publikace Neser bohy Josefa Moníka či sebrané spisy Howarda Phillipse Lovecrafta . Je autorem knihy Eseje o typografii , která byla nominována na literární cenu Magnesia litera v kategorii publicistika. Štorm působí jako zpěvák a kytarista v české metalové kapele Master’s Hammer, pro kterou také píše veškeré texty. Po rozpadu kapely v 90. letech nahrál album Airbrusher. Kapela se obnovila v roce 2009, kdy vydala album Mantras, později následované deskami Vracejte konve na místo, Vagus Vetus, Formulæ a Fascinator. Od roku 2015 je též členem projektu Mortal Cabinet. V roce 2005 mu byla udělena cena Revolver Revue. Jeho kniha Eseje o typografii byla v roce 2009 jednou ze tří knih nominovaných na českou literární cenu Magnesia Litera v kategorii publicistika.
