Henry Alfred Kissinger, celým jménem Heinz Alfred Kissinger je americký diplomat, historik, mediální komentátor, politik a politolog německého a židovského původu. Působil jako poradce pro národní bezpečnost a později jako ministr zahraničních věcí v administrativě prezidentů Richarda Nixona a Geralda Forda. Za spoluúčast při diplomatických jednáních ohledně války ve Vietnamu získal v roce 1973 Nobelovu cenu za mír, která vzbuzovala mnohé kontroverze, jelikož Kissinger mimo jiné také rozhodoval o intenzivním bombardování severního Vietnamu, které mělo zemi přimět k ukončení války. Jako podporovatel realistů sehrál Kissinger v letech 1969 až 1977 významnou roli v zahraniční politice Spojených států amerických. Během tohoto období se snažil o zmírnění napětí mezi USA a Sovětským svazem, zajistil otevřenější vztahy s Čínskou lidovou republikou a v roce 1973 vyjednal Pařížské dohody, kterými ukončil zapojení americké armády ve válce ve Vietnamu. Kissingerova politika často vyvolávala jistá znepokojení, která souvisela například na zapojení zpravodajské služby CIA v Chile, nebo na podporu Pákistánců, kteří během Bangladéšské války za nezávislost v roce 1971 páchali mnoho válečných zločinů, včetně genocidy. Kissinger je také zakladatelem newyorské vlivné konzultační společnosti Kissinger Associates, Inc. a významným autorem politických a historických literárních děl. Kissinger se narodil jako Heinz Alfred Kissinger v bavorském městě Fürth do židovské rodiny. Jeho otec Louis Kissinger byl gymnaziální učitel a jeho matka Paula byla žena v domácnosti. Henry měl také mladšího bratra Waltera. Příjmení Kissinger bylo rodinou, konkrétně prapradědou Meyerem Löbem, převzato již v roce 1817. Löb se inspiroval lázeňským městem Bad Kissingen.
