Jonathan Coe

Jonathan Coe se narodil 19. srpna 1961 v anglickém Birminghamu. Vystudoval univerzitu v Cambridge. Je ženatý a v současnosti žije v Londýně. Pracoval jako asistent anglické poezie na univerzitě ve Warwicku, jako poloprofesionální hudebník, korektor, novinář a spisovatel na volné noze. Napsal několik románů, například What a Carve Up! či The House of Sleep . Jonathan Coe o svém psaní prohlásil: „Psát jsem začal jako chlapec, ale teprve nedávno jsem se začal ptát sám sebe proč. Nejhorší typ románu je podle mě ten, ve kterém chybí humor. Pohled na tolik spisovatelů , kteří i nadále píší formou, která se zjevně vyčerpala, mi připadá poněkud směšný. Jsem si vědom, že Británie má silnou tradici experimentální tvorby, starou několik staletí, a překvapuje mě, že ji bere v úvahu jen tak málo našich spisovatelů. Přesto mi připadá naprosto zbytečné dělit beletrii na experimentální a neexperimentální. Spisovatel Robert Nye přišel s mnohem příhodnější klasifikací: podle něj existují pouze dva literární styly – živý a polomrtvý. Nemusíte ani hádat, o který z nich usiluji.“
